Nature
Estonian forests belong to the zone of mixed forests. Forests occupy 40% of the country’s surface area. Typical pine forests are most common, especially in the south-east and southern part of Estonia. Broad-leaved forests grow only in single groves, mostly in West and North Estonia. On limestone ground, mainly in Saaremaa and North-East Estonia, grow alvar forests, which consist of pinewoods and spruce woods. |
