Geographical position
Estonia is located on the south bank of the Finnish Bay of the Baltic Sea.
80 km north from Tallinn is Finland; 300 km east is Saint Petersburg, Riga remains in the south and Sweden in north-west.

Tallinn, the capital of Estonia has dense ship traffic with Helsinki and Stockholm; the railway connection makes it possible to get easily into Moscow and Saint Petersburg. The Airport of Tallinn receives airplanes from Moscow, Kiev, Riga, Vilnius, Warsaw,

Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Hamburg, London, Vienna and charter flights from the whole world. The airport is situated 2 km away from the city centre.
 

Tallinn, the capital
The culture of Tallinn shares the characteristics of European traditions, mainly the Scandinavian and German ones, but the Slavic influence is also present.

Tallinn is one of the best city-museums in the world. The waves of history that have touched the Estonian shores are reflected in majestic buildings, which create the famous skyline of Tallinn, and cosy houses compressed in the narrow streets of the old town.

 

Climate
In Estonia dominates the moderate marine climate. A favourable time for tourism is – from May until the middle of October. The average air temperature during summer months is 15–25°C. Thanks to the low level of water the sea and lake water gets quickly warmer and 20–24°C in July. Swimming season lasts from the beginning of June until the end of August.

Estonian beaches are wonderful places for spending the holidays with family. Tens of kilometres of natural beaches enable to spend

the vacation in complete separation. In winter there are good conditions for skiing in Estonia. The best time for it is in February.
 
Nature
Estonian forests belong to the zone of mixed forests. Forests occupy 40% of the country’s surface area. Typical pine forests are most common, especially in the south-east and southern part of Estonia. Broad-leaved forests grow only in single groves, mostly in West and North Estonia. On limestone ground, mainly in Saaremaa and North-East Estonia, grow alvar forests, which consist of pinewoods and spruce woods.
 
Estonian currency
Estonian national currency is Estonian Kroon, which has been used since 1992. 1 Estonian Kroon equals with 100 cents. The official rate of Estonian Kroon in relation to Euro is 15,65 Kroons for 1 Euro.
 
Real estate in Estonia
Estonia is a nice place for spending family holidays. Such wonderful and famous resort towns like Haapsalu and Pärnu are situated on the country’s territory. Buy a small house in one of these towns, which will become your foreign summer house where you can spend your whole vacation. In Estonia you can buy a living place for a very moderate price. Most important is to formalize correctly the purchase contract of an apartment, cottage or private residence.
